Prairie Modern
The Prairie Modern project is a custom new-build home designed in close dialogue with the Midwestern landscape. Expansive skies, open horizons, and long sightlines informed every design decision, resulting in a home that feels grounded, calm, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
Rather than competing with the land, the architecture and interiors were conceived to sit quietly within it. Clean lines, low profiles, and a restrained material palette allow the home to feel intentional without feeling imposing. This is modern design softened by place, proportion, and purpose.
Inside, the layout prioritizes flow and clarity. Spaces unfold naturally, guided by light and movement rather than rigid formality. Large windows frame views of prairie and sky, bringing the outdoors in and allowing the home to shift subtly throughout the day as light changes.
Materials were selected for their honesty and longevity. Warm woods, stone, and textured surfaces balance the modern architecture, creating a sense of comfort and approachability. The palette remains calm and cohesive, supporting a lifestyle that values ease, openness, and thoughtful living.
The kitchen and living areas serve as the heart of the home, designed for both daily rhythms and gathering. Sightlines remain open, encouraging connection while allowing each space to retain its own identity. Furnishings and finishes were chosen to complement the architecture, never overpowering it, and to age gracefully alongside the homeowners.
Throughout the home, the emphasis is on balance. Between openness and intimacy. Precision and warmth. Modern form and human scale. Feng Shui principles were integrated subtly to support flow, orientation, and a sense of grounding, enhancing how the home feels rather than dictating how it looks.
The result is a home that feels calm, confident, and quietly expressive. A modern prairie residence that honors its landscape, supports daily life, and offers a timeless framework for the years ahead.
